The Kimberley’s

As we crossed over the Western Australia border heading to Kununurra we saw the landscape change.

First we saw the hills coloured in red and brown, rocky, slanted and uneven in shape. They created a beautiful backdrop as we drove the smooth road in to town.

As we explored each day the mountains would change shape and texture and it was always something interesting to spot and gaze at.

The big boabs in the area fascinated me with all there large shapes standing alone for all to see and the little ones in groups or lines fighting to grow bigger. Some had marking from people carving into them some held tons of elipse shaped seed pods and some had beautiful creamy coloured flowers blooming.

Lake Argyle was an giant lake surrounded by hills and the view from the lookout was really cool. We spotted a freshwater croc just before Gav through a line in to see if the were any fish about. The drive there and back was beautiful in itself with the various landscapes and little creek crossings.

We were lucky that it was the quiet season and scored a van spot right at the waterfront at the caravan park. We enjoyed the sunset over the Ord river and attempted to catch some fish, but we had no luck.

Then we made the big drive to Broome. We saw plenty of cattle, birds and lovely views on the way.

We stopped a roadhouse late that night as we didn’t quite make the drive in one day. Note to self I do not enjoy setting up at night after long drives, it puts me in a grumpy mood.

Emmett got to pat his first calf there and were all excited to reach Broome the next day nice and early.
